Creighton men's soccer team scored in the second minute of play late Thursday night against Washington and didn't score again until the 109th minute of play. The late goal helped defeat the Huskies, 2-1, in double overtime. Mike Tranchilla's (Barnhart, Mo. / St. Pius X) third goal in two games at 108:44 gave the 16th-ranked Bluejays the victory and upped their season mark to 5-1-1. Senior preseason All-American Mike Tranchilla of the Creighton men's soccer team has been tabbed the Missouri Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts last weekend at the Ameritas Classic in Omaha. For the first time since 1998, the Creighton men's soccer team has claimed the Ameritas Classic tournament championship. The Bluejays have hosted the annual event since 1990, and with a 2-0 win over Oral Roberts on Sunday afternoon at Tranquility Park, clinched their eighth tournament title. Matt Thomas' second-half goal provided the Creighton men's soccer team with all the offense it would need in a 1-0 victory over the Dayton Flyers in Friday night action in the Ameritas Classic at Tranquility Park. The junior headed his first goal of the year past the Dayton keeper in the 53rd minute to secure the CU win. Sophomore Julian Nash has been named the men's soccer Missouri Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his play at the Furman Invitational last weekend, as announced by the league office Tuesday.
